Support

Today, Chelsea and I joined my mom out at the Marine's booth. On the weekends, my mom and her friend collect donations for the Marine's. Originally, we set out to indulge ourselves in their delicious, inexpensive breakfast menu! It ended up, we brought in about 1/3 of the day's donations!

As I sat there with my two sons and mom, an irritated lady approached the table. She instantly began to voice her feelings about the military and the ones who are no longer with us. She felt that a foundation for fallen soldier's (which we were displaying) was offensive. She continued on to tell my mom that we should remember those who are still fighting this war and so on. If you know what my mom is involved in, you will know that she is raising funds to send well-wishes to troops overseas and their family members.

I instantly found myself irritated that this woman had such a strong opinion of something which she knew nothing about. My mom actually calmed the lady down and explained what Operation Stocking Stuffer was really about. She left teary eyed, after she said she already lost one son and had family still fighting this war.

My question though, what exactly is wrong with "memorializing" the fallen soldiers? This lady was very upset at the thought that we might be doing this. I think (now it's only MY opinion) that we should do something to commemorate those who are no longer with us. They gave their lives for our country, you and me!

I agree with you Lacey. I think that the fallen soldiers should be memorialized. Just because we are remembering the fallen soldiers that doesn't mean we forget the soldiers still overseas. Almost everyone now days has a family member serving overseas for our country. I believe it show's respect and appreciation to all soldiers not just the fallen. I think what you guy's do is wonderful.

I totally agree with Lacey and Chrystal! And thank you Kim for taking the time to talk to this women. Sometimes "civilians" just don't understand. Bless your heart for all you are doing for our military. You have a heart of gold. And thank you Lacey and Chelsea for exposing the kids to these wonderful fund raisers. This is what our men and women of the Armed Forces are fighting for, our Freedom!

Well I'm glad to see I'm not alone with my opinion. These men and women should be remembered with great admiration for giving their all. We are so excited that Steve is coming home safely. I hope he knows how much our family respects and cares about him.

We are so excited for my brother to be coming home as well. And yes, he does know how much your family cares about him. He is beyond excited to be coming home even if it's for a short time.

Lacey and Chelsea...thank you so much for taking time to come help! I know that we spend a lot of time fundraising so, it is so great to be able to spend time with you girls and have you help. This is such a labor of love and I know how proud we are of our military and our 2 very own heroes, Steve and Chad.
Just for the record: the woman Lacey is talking about was so grief-stricken. I was glad that I had the chance to talk to her and hopefully ease her heart some. One thing is for sure...we love and will always support our military!!
